Going Once, Going Twice...

Auction Paddles

The rcboisjoli studios was recently asked by Shaun Moore of MADE to decorate five bidding paddles for an auction supporting the LGBT Youth Line’s yearly fundraiser here in Toronto, taking place November 6th at the Neubacher Shor Gallery. 20 designers and artists have decorated 5 paddles each, making it a diverse group of exciting objects.
We chose to create a series of flat porcelain tiles with layers of decals to decorate each paddle. We used an assortment of hand screened, platinum & gold lustre and vintage decals for each collage. Each tile was decorated and fired in several layers to add depth to the applied images. The image below shows a close up of a tile featuring brightly coloured insects. This tile had three layers of decals, each layer being fired before the subsequent layer could be applied. We dearly love colleague Ian Phillips’ homage to the late Fancy as inspiration to his paddles, seen here

If you want to bid you’ll need a bidding paddle!

October 10th the 100 paddles will be up for a silent auction, 7:30 to 9pm at Made, 867 Dundas Street West (just west of Bathurst, between Euclid & Manning). Bids open at $50. Leftover paddles will be available online and the night of the Youth Line Art Auction.
Once you have a paddle, you can participate in the Youth Line Art Auction Fundraiser, November 6th, at Meubacher Shor Gallery, 5 Brock Avenue (north off Queen, west of Dufferin). Viewing of generously donated works of art available for auction begins at 6:30 p.m. with live auction at 7:30.
